Do I have to restore before using redsn0w 0.3
If your iPod is NOT jailbroken, then you do not have to restore unless
you are nearly out of space on your iPod. If your iPod IS jailbroken,
then it is advised that you do so.
Can I use redsn0w 0.3 on an already jailbroken iPod?
Sort of. Since Cydia will be reinstalled (not always reinstalling Cydia
is a bad idea for a lot of reasons), its package list will be restored
to its original state. This means that Cydia will "forget" all of the
packages you have installed, but all of them will still actually be
installed anyway. You can generally "reinstall" the packages you have
without things messing up or extra space being taken up.
However, a jailbroken iPod touch is pretty unpredictable in layout and
there is a much higher chance of redsn0w 0.3 failing. If it does fail,
you will have to restore your iPod. Generally, it is advised that you
do NOT use redsn0w 0.3 on an already jailbroken iPod.
Is Windows Vista x64 supported?
Yes.
Do I need to install libusb?
No. In fact, if you have libusb installed on your Vista computer, we
advise you to uninstall it at your very earliest convenience. It is
very, very dangerous. Any driver that is known to cause BSODs does not
belong in your system's kernelspace.
Do I need to run it under XP compatibility mode?
No, it'll probably do more harm than good since redsn0w is not tested under that mode.
Do I need to run it under Administrator mode?
No, it'll probably do more harm than good since redsn0w is not tested under that mode.
What happens if redsn0w 0.3 hangs at "Waiting for reboot..."?
If it is the very first "Waiting for reboot..." and either Windows or
Linux is the operating system, then all you have to do is unplug and
replug in the iPod. This is a problem generally caused by using a USB
hub instead of directly plugging the iPod into the computer.
If it is the SECOND "Waiting for reboot...", this is a known issue.
Occasionally the second iBSS crashes. We have not yet been able to
ascertain the reason. Exit out of redsn0w 0.3. You must turn off the
iPod by holding down Hold and Home simultaneously for 10 seconds and
then re-enter DFU mode using the normal steps. Then, re-run redsn0w
0.3. It will probably work then.
What happens if it hangs at the Apple boot logo, the running pineapple screen having completed?
Set a timer for 15 minutes. If after 15 minutes it is still hung on the
Apple logo (the iPod may reboot by itself during the 15 minutes), then
you will have to go into Recovery Mode (DFU mode is not necessary) and
restore your iPod.
This may occur if you tried to use redsn0w 0.3 on an already jailbroken
iPod, or if there is not enough space on your iPod to install Cydia.
What if something else happened that's not covered in the FAQ, and my iPod is still bootable?
Put your iPod in DFU mode and try again. It was probably something
intermittent or perhaps you're doing one of the DFU mode steps wrong.

my iPod is stuck in Recovery Mode? (connect to iTunes logo showing, no
battery indicator in the corner of the screen)
Try holding down the Home and Hold button simultaneously for 15
seconds. Then let go and wait 3 seconds. Then hold down the Hold
button. This should boot up your iPod if your iPod is still bootable.
If your iPod is still in Recovery Mode, then you will probably have to
restore.
What if something else happened that's not covered in the FAQ, and
my iPod is stuck in DFU mode? (Screen is off, though Windows makes a
sound when you plug it in)
Try holding down the Home and Hold button simultaneously for 15
seconds. Then let go and wait 3 seconds. Then hold down the Hold
button. This should boot up your iPod if your iPod is still bootable.
You should also hear Windows detecting the iPod shutting off and then
turning on again if your iPod is plugged into USB. If your iPod is
still in DFU mode, then you will probably have to restore.
What if my iPod is in DFU mode, but iTunes won't restore it, saying
something about not being able to find the software update and needing
to update to the latest version of iTunes?
Use redsn0w 0.3 to put your iPod into recovery mode. You can run the
process until it says "Uploading ramdisk..." (or honestly, any time
after the first "Waiting for reboot...") and quit out of the
application. Then use iTunes to restore.
